I don’t have a favorite author.
I have had a lot of important influences, I would say some more standing out than others, there have been writers who have changed me and opened new paths, both as a reader and as a person.
But I never wanted to have a single favorite author.
As in everything.
I have no idols, I have always thought that we are all human beings and that, although there are more or less important or influential characters, each of us, in our small way is a star.
Said that…
There are some books that I consider fundamental, such as “Narcissus and Goldmund” by Hesse, “Reunion” by Fred Uhlman, or “The Painted Bird” by Jerzy Kozinski, “Tristessa” or “Desolation Angels” by Jack Kerouack or Bukowski’s poems.
Books that I read when I was young and that taught me a lot of things.
But I don’t have a favorite literary genre.
I like to discover and read, to find authors who give me and leave me something.
I really like the first Nicolaj Lilin, a Russian naturalized Italian writer, and his novels about his youth and difficult growth under the Russian Communist regime.
I loved Lansdale’s “Leather Maiden” and many other books by him, stories of pure American madness.
Bunker, Ellroy, Massimo Carlotto, Jonathan Coe, P.K. Dick, Nick Cave, Burgess, Burroughs or Carver… are some of the authors I like and enjoyed reading, different, raw, unique, twisted stories.
I loved Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” more than any other book I’ve read in recent years.
A dark pearl that creeps into your mind as you read it and become part of that gloomy terrible world described by the author.
Now I’m reading Brian Panowich’s “Bull Mountain”: interesting.
I also like to browse books on magic, illustrations and alchemical human weirdness.
I would also like to read the great classics of literature, but my time is always tight and I should find an inner peace that I don’t have at this moment.
Maybe in old age, sitting on the poarch of a cottage in the hills, watching the sunset, in the late summer breeze, I will be able to do it.
There are many other writers that I adore, and surely many will come to mind once this answer is published.

Non ho un autore preferito.
Ho avuto alcune influenze più importanti, direi forse “segnanti”, di altre, ci sono stati scrittori che mi hanno cambiato e aperto nuove strade, sia come lettore che come persona.
Ma non ho mai voluto avere un solo autore preferito.
Come in ogni cosa.
Non ho idoli, ho sempre pensato che siamo tutti esseri umani e che, sebbene ci siano personaggi più o meno importanti o influenti, ognuno di noi, nel nostro piccolo è una stella.
Detto questo…
Ci sono alcuni libri che reputo fondamentali, come “Narciso e Boccadoro” di Hesse, “L’amico ritrovato” di Fred Uhlman, oppure “L’uccello dipinto” di Jerzy Kozinski, “Tristessa” o “Angeli di desolazione” di Jack Kerouack o le poesie di Bukowski.
Libri che ho letto in giovinezza e che mi hanno insegnato parecchie cose.
Ma non ho un genere letterario preferito.
Mi piace scoprire e leggere, trovare autori che mi diano e mi lascino qualcosa.
Mi piace molto il primo Nicolaj Lilin, uno scrittore russo naturalizzato italiano, e i suoi romanzi sulla sua giovinezza e difficile crescita sotto il regime comunista russo.
Ho amato “la ragazza col cuore d’acciaio” di Lansdale e molti altri suoi libri, storie di follia americana.
Bunker, Ellroy, Massimo Carlotto, P.K. Dick, Jonathan Coe, Nick Cave, Burgess, Burroughs o Carver… sono alcuni degli autori che mi piace e mi è piaciuto leggere, storie diverse, crude, uniche, contorte.
Ho adorato “La strada” di Cormac McCarthy più di ogni altro libro che ho letto negli ultimi anni.
Una perla scura che si insinua nella mente mentre leggi e diventi parte di quel mondo tetro descritto dall’autore.
Ora sto leggendo “Bull Mountain” di Brian Panowich, interessante.
Mi piace anche sfogliare libri di magia, illustrazioni e alchemiche follie umane.
Vorrei anche leggere i grandi classici della letteratura, ma il mio tempo è sempre risicato e dovrei trovare una pace interiore che al momento non ho.
Forse in vecchiaia, seduto a guardare il tramonto, nella veranda di una casetta sulle colline, nella brezza di fine estate riuscirò a farlo.
Tanti altri sono gli scrittori che adoro, e sicuramente me ne verranno in mente tanti una volta pubblicata questa risposta.
