I have different approaches to composition.
There is not a precise rule.
With Ufomammut, for example, we have always created first the skeleton of the songs (in different ways) and then, inspired by them, we built on the structure and the various levels up to the final form.
While playing, ideas and sounds may come to mind, samples, voices or other fxs that will then end up within the songs.
For The Mon it is very different.
Being a solo project, I create layers that build the final shape, adding and filling in places that seem empty to me.
Since there is hardly ever the drums, I have to find other ways to rhythm the parts, to give a tempo to everything.
Synths are sometimes the starting point, other times they come later to set the mood.
Other times they mix with bass or guitar to create the “sense” of the song.
With The Mon I’m also working a lot on vocals, trying to use it in new ways compared to Ufomammut in which the voice has always had the function of being another instrument.
However, I try not to have a rule, to always change, “improvise” and have differences between the songs I write.

Ci sono differenti approcci alla composizione.
Non esiste una regola precisa.
Con Ufomammut abbiamo sempre creato lo scheletro dei brani (in differenti maniere) e quindi, ispirati da questi, abbiamo costruito sopra la struttura e i vari livelli fino ad arrivare alla forma finale.
Mentre si suona, possono venire in mente idee e suoni, samples, voci o altro che poi andranno a finire all’interno dei brani.
Per The Mon è invece molto diverso.
Essendo un progetto solista, creo livelli che vanno a costruire la forma finale, aggiungendo e riempiendo nei punti che mi sembrano vuoti.
Non essendoci praticamente mai la batteria, devo trovare altri modi di ritmare le parti, di dare un tempo al tutto.
I synth a volte sono il punto di partenza, altre volte vengono dopo per creare l’atmosfera.
Altre ancora si mescolano con basso o chitarra per creare il “senso” del pezzo.
Con The Mon sto lavorando anche molto alla voce, cercando di usarla in modi nuovi rispetto ad Ufomammut in cui ha sempre avuto la funzione di essere un altro strumento.
Cerco comunque di non avere una regola, per variare sempre, “improvvisare” e avere differenze tra i pezzi che scrivo.
